Summary:
Chris is committed to helping owners live happily with their dogs. Whether you need a down beside the dinner table or 20 agility obstacles in the correct order, clear and consistent communication will help. Many behavior problems seem to melt away once people understand how to communicate their goal behavior to the dog and learn how to observe and interpret the dog’s behavior. Bystanders often say it looks like magic when they watch a dog respond to clicker training. Let Chris teach that magic to you and your dog.
Bio:
Chris has been surrounded by pets for as long as she can remember--mice, tropical fish, cats, rats, hamsters, dogs, frogs--whatever she could fit in her time and space. She transitioned to force free, positive reinforcement training techniques in 2004. Her son's Australian Shepherd had begun lunging at people. All of the aversive training suggestions given to Chris to correct the problem only made the situation worse. Desperation set in when she realized something had to change or she was going to end up forever separating her son and his dog. Online research led her to clickers and positive reinforcement solutions. Success!
Chris actively trains her own dogs in obedience, rally, agility, scent work, and treibball. She enjoys donating dog training and education services to her county 4-H dog club. It is a wonderful way to help children expand and improve their relationships with their dogs. It has the side benefit of allowing her to interact with many different ages, breeds, and temperaments of dogs without taking them all home!
